On March 14,2025, Congress approved a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through 2025 fiscal year end. This CR eliminates all "earmarked" projects from appropriations, namely, Congressionally Directed Spending Grants(CDS) which includes the $2.3 million grant for the North Pond alum project that Senator Collins has supported.
Senator Collins is cautiously optimistic that the CDS grants will be included in the 2026 federal budget and has strongly encouraged 7 Lakes Alliance (7LA) to resubmit the CDS grant proposal for North Pond for consideration.
7 Lakes Alliance is in the process of submitting a revised proposal in the next few weeks and will stay in close communication with Senator Collins's office and North Pond Association. The Lake Science team at 7LA will continue to carefully monitor North Pond to advance the scientific foundation of this extensive project. Comprehensive, year-round water testing by 7LA is providing valuable data that informs the scientific decision-making process for the alum treatment. This data will ensure the most effective and targeted approach to improve the water quality in North Pond.
The North Pond community has successfully raised the 20% matching funds required by the CDS grant for this project.
THANK YOU to all who have generously donated! These funds are earning interest and will judiciously be allocated to costs for the alum treatment and erosion control work to extend the efficacy of the alum. We recognized that everyone is eager to see the treatment underway. We assure you that North Pond Association and 7 Lakes Alliance are working tirelessly on the effort to protect the North Pond water quality for all to enjoy for years to come.
Thank you for your ongoing support, generosity, and understanding of the fluidity related to the funding of this project.
